He made his debut as a film director by the documentary film "Pyuupiru 2001-2008" (2011) which records 8 years of his old friend, contemporary artist Pyuupiru who has a gender identity disorder. The film was officially invited to the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam, the 11th Jeonju International Film Festival, the Paris International Film Festival and many other film festivals.

His first feature film "Pieta in the Toilet" (2015 / Cast: Yojiro Noda & Hana Sugisaki) was screened in Shinjuku Piccadilly and other movie theaters in Japan and created a sensation soon afterwards. This work was an official selection of the International Competition category of the 16th Jeonju Film Festival, the Japan Now category of the 28th Tokyo International Film Festival and the Voices category of the 45th International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Moreover, many documentary films and fictional works were released in sequence, including the documentary film "Vibration: THE YELLOW MONKEY" (2017) which records a year of activities of THE YELLOW MONKEY, film "Hanalei Bay" (2018) adapted from Haruki Murakami's original work "Hanalei Bay" and "Pure Japanese" (2022).

His latest work "Egoist" (2023 / Cast: Ryohei Suzuki and Hio Miyazawa) received high praise and became a huge hit as soon as it was released. At the same time, it was decided to be screened in movie theatres in overseas countries and regions, such as Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and North America. Moreover, at the Asian Film Awards which is said to be Asian Film Awards Academy, Ryohei Suzuki was nominated for Best Actor Award and Hio Miyazawa for Best Supporting Actor Award and the movie was also nominated for Best Costume Design Award. In addition, Hio Miyazawa won Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in this work.
