In 2000, he participated in an audition show run by one of TV stations.
Even though he failed in the final selection, he officially started his music activities with this show as the beginning.
He made his debut as a member of group in June 2001 and released four singles and one album together with them.
He paused his activities in October 2002 and went to the United States to study English in Los Angeles and New York for half a year.
After returning to Japan, he participated in Ketsumeishi's album with a chorus and carried out activities as a fashion model.
In June 2003, he played Kenji Nini in the movie "Hotel Hibiscus".
In September 2005, he signed to LDH.
On April 12, 2006, he made his solo debut with "Tsuishin" under the name "NESMITH".
From May to July 2006, he participated in Musha Shugyo Tour.
He participated in [EXILE VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2006 ~ASIAN DREAM~] which was held on September 22, 2006 and became the finalist, but then unfortunately was eliminated.
In January 2007, he was chosen as the vocalist of the reborn J Soul Brothers.
In August 2007, he gave his debut performance on the final show of EXILE LIVE TOUR 2007 "EXILE EVOLUTION ~SUMMER TIME LOVE~" which was held at TOKYO BIG SIGHT.
In October 2008, J Soul Brothers Nationwide Tour "Musha Shugyo Futatabi" kicked off.
He appeared on EXILE's first dome tour "EXILE PERFECT LIVE 2008" which was held from the end of November to the end of December 2008.
On February 25, 2009, he made his major debut as a member of J Soul Brothers with the major debut album "J Soul Brothers".
He joined EXILE on March 1, 2009.
In May 2010, he participated in GEKIDAN EXILE's 4th show "DANCE EARTH ~Negai~".
From January 2012, he served as the Wednesday MC of Nippon Broadcasting System's "EXILE NESMITH no ALL NIGHT NIPPON". (until March 2013)
From November 2012, "THE SECOND from EXILE", a group formed by Kenchi Tachibana, Keiji Kuroki, TETSUYA, NESMITH and SHOKICHI, started carrying out activities.
In November 2012, he participated in the "X Series Photo Exhibit 'Shashin Suru Koto'".
On January 16, 2013, "Inochi no Rhythm" by DANCE EARTH music project "DANCE EARTH PARTY" was released.
From January 2015, he launched his irregular series in Kodansha's "with". (until September 2017)
In 2016, "THE SECOND from EXILE" changed its name to "EXILE THE SECOND" and with EXILE AKIRA joining the group they officially started carrying out activities.

From April 2019, his regular program "NES-FES" with him as the MC started airing on TKU.
From July 2019 to August 2019, he played Captain Hook / Mr. Darling in the Broadway musical "Peter Pan".
